The Rush Begins

The mild weather the last few days finally dried things up enough to start planting.  I found spots for all the little natives I carried through the winter - Meadow Sweet, Cup Plant, Wild Quinine and Rattlesnake Master.  I relocated a few things as well.  A few of the Blue Stem Goldenrods are in the sun beds, and the potted Chives are in the ground.  I have pulled out both GIANT bleeding hearts.  They were so big I had to split them in two to move.  One went next to the shed in place of a bunch of sensitive and ostrich fern, and one will go to my church.  A couple Golden Alexanders went in one spot vacated by the bleeding heart, and Jack-in-the-Pulpits went in another spot.  My Rue (Ruta Graveolens) plant found a new home toward the back of the yard in higher ground.  It should do better there, where it's roots won't be so wet in the spring. I still have  couple hyssops to put in, but I want to save them for the raised herb garden at the far end of the yard.
The seeds I planted recently have begun to come up.  I have basil and gourds poking through the soil.  Now I know how that mother eagle must have felt when her eggs began to hatch.  So small and tender now, but by the end of summer big enough to swallow the house.  I still need to get the trellis material, but I figure I have a little time yet.
