Heirlooms

This is proving to be the summer of heirlooms - heirloom vegetables that is.  I maintain the heritage garden at Colonial Villa where I work and this year I chose several heirloom tomatoes and peppers for the large plant boxes.  I am also planting heirlooms in my home garden, along with the pumpkins, gourds and basil I started under grow lights.  I spent an hour last night separating the basil seedlings into three-packs and potting up the gourds and pumpkins into larger pots.  They are all sitting outside hardening off for planting later in the week.  I'm also volunteering at the Homestead at CNC this summer and helping with the Heirloom garden there.  Saturday we planted seeds for broom corn, squash, watermelon, radishes, turnips and two kinds of pole beans.  The tomatoes will go in soon as well.
