Planting Time
With the completion of the planter boxes I finally put my gourd and pumpkin plants in the ground yesterday. This afternoon I planted nearly 35 basil seedlings - enough supply the whole neighborhood. The final garden project is the raised bed. Measurements show I need a handful of retaining wall stones. It will be only 2 stones high, seven feet wide and about five feet from front to back. I would have sworn it would need to be over a foot high. With all the sod I removed for other projects I will only need a little top soil to fill in and level off the bed. I hope to create a space with better drainage for plants that don't like wet feet. I have some native grasses and herbs waiting for their home. I will move my Rue (Ruta graveolans) and add a few other culinary herbs.
